My sweet little girl is 1. Time shows you just how My sweet little girl is 1. Time shows you just how fast it really moves when you get to watch your helpless newborn grow into a bright, spirited toddler. I feel so blessed to be her mother. It is more than I could have ever dreamed of. Happy birthday to my greatest love.

The flower patch is really starting to crank out b The flower patch is really starting to crank out blooms. Things I’ve learned so far.
1. I have too many bed hogs/ slow growers in a very limited amount of space.
2. The dahlias, celosia and snapdragons have a longer maturity time and I should have started them well before the rest.
3. Rabbits like to eat baby dahlias and I suspect sunflowers too.
4. I should have used a fish emulsion to fertilize. The plants feel smaller than they could be.
5. Planting the sunflowers and dahlias on the north side of the patch made sense because they grow the tallest, but it’s also the side of the patch that gets the most shade which is no good.

That’s all for now. Really loving this process. 💐

My first hand at making everyday loaves of bread. My first hand at making everyday loaves of bread. I’ll admit I’ve avoided sourdough bread because it intimidates me and it just seems like a lot of work. I’ll jump in eventually but for now this yeast bread recipe gives that beautiful artisanal feel and is so so easy. And well to get high quality english muffins at the store it’s $5 for a pack of 6. It’s so much cheaper to make them yourself. Let me know if you try either of these.

EVERYDAY LOAF
- 3 cups (450g) flour , bread or plain/all purpose
- 2 tsp instant or rapid rise yeast (for active dry yeast )
- 2 tsp cooking kosher salt
- 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) very warm tap water (130°F)
- 1 1/2 tbsp flour , for dusting
Directions
1. Mix flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl. Add water, then use the handle of a wooden spoon to mix until all the flour is incorporated. Dough will be wet and sloppy – not kneadable, but not runny like cake batter. Adjust with more water or flour if needed for right consistency
2. Cover with cling wrap or plate, leave on counter for 2 – 3 hours until it doubles in volume, it’s wobbly like jelly and the top is bubbly. If after 1 hour it doesn’t seem to be rising, move it somewhere warmer.
3. Put dutch oven in oven with lid on (10” or larger). Preheat to 450°F 30 minutes prior to baking.
4. Sprinkle work surface with 1 tbsp flour, scrape dough out of bowl. Sprinkle top with 1/2 tbsp flour. Using a dough scraper or anything of similar shape (cake server, large knife, spatula), fold the sides inwards (about 6 folds) to roughly form a roundish shape.
5. Slide a large piece of parchment/baking paper next to the dough, then flip the dough upside down onto the paper (ie seam side down, smooth side up). Slide/push it towards the middle, then reshape it into a round(ish) shape.
6. Remove hot dutch oven from oven. Use paper to place dough into pot, place lid on.
7. Bake 30 minutes covered, then 12 minutes uncovered or until deep golden.
8. Cool on rack for 10 minutes before slicing.

Visited a u-pick strawberry field today and loaded Visited a u-pick strawberry field today and loaded up on some beautiful fresh strawberries. It felt so good to see a farm stand in action, it fuels my dreams and keeps me focused on creating my own one day. The season ends in April so I’ll be back to collect more berries soon. My plan is to pick enough to freeze for smoothies, can strawberry jam, dehydrate some to add into granola and make some fresh treats too. 🍓
